4 Advantages of Bacteriostatic Water

Bacteriostatic water is a form of water that’s designed to prevent the growth and development of certain types of bacteria. To accomplish this, water is usually sterilized and then filtered to eliminate the present bacteria. The water is then mixed with 0.9% benzyl alcohol to prevent future contamination or the growth of bacteria. If a physician needs to dilute or dissolve medications for a patient’s injection, bacteriostatic water can be utilized. It can be used on all the three methods of injections namely intravenous, intramuscular and subcutaneous. Once the 28 days lapse, the benzyl alcohol loses its effect of hindering bacteria growth. In some cases, salt may be used to prevent the growth of bacteria instead of benzyl alcohol. Bacteriostatic water is not expensive to manufacture and that’s one of the reasons it’s readily available. It can even be manufactured from home as long as you have all the requirements and understand the right procedure. You will require benzyl alcohol and sterile water. Using tap water isn’t advised because it can make bacteriostatic water dangerous; you aren’t sure of the quality of water the council supplies.
