If you are heading on out to the water in your own yacht, a friend’s yacht or a rented vessel, you are in for a treat! A yacht allows you to explore the water, catch some rays and enjoy an afternoon with friends or family. Let’s take a look at a few tips that will help you make the most of your yacht experience.
Begin by Mapping out an Itinerary
Whether you are a newcomer to the local waters or if you are an experienced boater who is on the prowl for a new adventure, you should still invest a little bit of time to map out an itinerary. Most people find that the best yacht experience occurs in the hours around the sunset as it provides some amazing visuals that will be absolutely unforgettable. Or, consider plotting out a nighttime trip where you can take in the moon in all its glory. Regardless of what time you go, you should know exactly where you will be going so you don’t have to worry about getting lost. This way, you can focus on having fun with your guests.
Prepare for the Sun
Your yacht experience will likely include some on-deck activities beneath the sun’s harsh rays. Be sure to prepare for the sun’s wrath with sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen and water. Wear light colored, lightweight clothes to boot. This way, you won’t go home with a nasty sunburn and you won’t suffer from dehydration. Don’t forget to bring a swimsuit along with a change of clothes in case you decide to take a dip in the water.
Bring Along Some Sustenance
Your yacht experience certainly includes a lot of activities like admiring the sunset, snapping some shots of the shoreline and/or watching the dolphins play in the water. Don’t forget to bring some food and schedule in time for a meal or two. Bring foods that won’t spoil such as granola bars, chips, and sandwiches / wraps. If you bring beverages or perishable foods, be sure to store them in a cooler. Also, consider plotting out a course in which you dock near a beach where you can enjoy a full picnic meal with your guests.
Limit Alcohol Consumption
Though it is tempting to load up your cooler with alcoholic beverages, do your best to resist the temptation. Alcohol has the potential to diminish your ability to enjoy the yacht experience. It increases the risk of an accident and dehydrates your body that will be exposed to the sun’s rays for hours. Bring along some sparkling wine or juice instead. If you are absolutely insistent on drinking alcohol during your yacht experience, drink with caution. Also, mix in some water in between alcoholic drinks to prevent dehydration.
Make Some Memories
Yachting is all about seeing new sights and having fun. Be sure to bring along a camera or camcorder to record these memories. You will cherish them for years to come and be able to share them with friends, family and co-workers.
