5 Unique Ways Men Can Prevent Urinary Incontinence

Male incontinence is caused by several syndromes and preventing it is the best way to counter it. The effects of male incontinence include neurological problems or genitourinary tract issues. The goal of preventing it is to determine the actual cause if it happened in the past. Consider the change in medication, or any weight added that is placing pressure on your bladder. Lose weight

With added weight, you can add more pressure on the bladder. You need to start exercising more and eat healthy foods. You can reduce weight by doing the following:

  • Limit your meal portions.
  • Start an exercise routine and stick with it. Include cardio workouts like swimming and running, flexibility training like stretching and yoga, and weight training.
  • Eat a well-balanced meal that has the right amounts of vegetables, fruits, carbs, low-fat dairy, and proteins.

Additionally, you will have to increase zinc in your diet, the amount of lycopene intake which are antioxidants that fight cancer by taking tomatoes, guava, watermelon, and grapefruit.

Stop smoking

This is an excellent way to avoid the development of male incontinence. According to the National Institutes of Health reports, approximately 50% of bladder cancer is linked to smoking. If a tumor adds pressure to the bladder, it can easily result in incontinence. Try out Kegel exercises

Kegel exercise which helps to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles are a great way to prevent incontinence. It can be tricky learning to do them correctly because of the isolation of pelvic muscles. Since you use pelvic muscles to try to stop urination, they are the best muscles to work on. In kegel exercises, once you have isolated the pelvic muscles, squeeze them and hold for a round of five to fifteen seconds count. You can do ten repetitions four times a day.

Avoid diuretics

A diuretic is a drug that reduces fluid from your body.these medications are usually prescribed for patients with heart problems. But sadly, it can cause incontinence. There are several kinds of diuretics that are easy to recognize:

  • Quinazoline: Zaroxolyn.
  • Potassium sparing: Aldactone, Maxzide, Dyazide, and Aldactazide.
  • Loop diuretics: Demadex and Lasix.
  • Thiazide diuretics: Capozide, Hyzaar, Thalitone, Tenoretic, Clorpres, and Dyazide.

Avoid some muscle relaxants

A muscle relaxant is a medication used by athletes who have muscle injuries. It may be a surprise to most people, but muscle relaxants can cause incontinence. Some of the common ones like Flexeril, Robaxin, Soma, and Valium should be avoided.

At times, the cause of incontinence can be out of your control since, in men, it is often a side effect of prostate problems. But since you have to do all you can to prevent yourself from having prostrate problems, using the methods above can lower your chances of developing incontinence.
